Third suicide in 48 hours shocks education hub Kota
A 17-year-old boy from Bihar, taking coaching in Kota to crack entrance for admission in IIT-JEE was on Tuesday morning found hanging to the ceiling fan of his hostel room in Mahavir Nagar – II area under Mahavir Nagar police station. Police have placed the body in the mortuary of Maharao Bhim Singh Hospital for the post-mortem to be carried out on Wednesday after the arrival of his family members from Bihar.
It is third suicide by coaching student in last 48 hours in Kota and 19th this year since January.
The boy, identified as Jitesh Gupta, a resident of Hardobara in Siwan district of Bihar was found hanging to the ceiling fan of his hostel room in Mahavir Nagar – II, told Ishwar Singh, Sub-inspector at Mahavir Nagar police station. The deceased boy had passed class 12th and for last three years, he had been preparing in an institute of Kota to crack entrance exam for admission in IIT-JEE, he added.
When the boy did not attend the call from his parents, they called his friend and asked him to see the boy in his hostel room following which he rushed to his room and found the room locked from inside, the SI said. When the friend peeped through the window, he found the boy hanging to the ceiling fan, he added.
Police rushed to the spot and recovered the body to place it in the mortuary of MBS hospital for the postmortem to be carried out after the arrival of his family members from Bihar, the SI said. The boy is most likely to have hanged himself sometime last night, he added. The reason behind the extreme step by the boy is yet to be ascertained as no suicide note was recovered from his room, the SI added.
It is the third suicide within last 48 hours as two other coaching students identified as a 17-year-old girl, identified as Diksha Singh, a NEET aspirant and resident of Kushinagar town in UP on Sunday noon hanged herself to the ceiling fan of her hostel room in Adarsh Nagar and committed suicide while another 16-year-old boy identified as Deepak Dadich, an IIT aspirant and resident of Laxmipura village under Talera police station of Bundi district on Saturday noon hanged himself in his coaching institute’s upper storey room and committed suicide. It is the 19th suicide by a coaching student in Kota this year since January.
